I was born in Washington D.C. in 1952, and grew up in the metropolitan area attending the University of Maryland. My work experience beyond the educational arena has been extremely diverse ranging from police officer, landscaping, construction, sales, veterinarian assistant, as well as over 40 years of working in the hospitality industry in hotels, catering, country clubs, private clubs, restaurants, bars, and retail wine establishments. I am a certified wine sommelier. I have taught in the Hospitality Department at Johnson County Community College and administered programs for Kansas City Kansas Community College teaching classes at Leavenworth and Lansing Prisons. I was involved in Educational Research at the University of Kansas working for Juniper Gardens Childrens Project. I taught at multiple schools in Kansas City Kansas mostly in the area of behavior disorders initiating the Wyandotte Academy that was a collaborative effort with the school district and Wyandotte Mental Health. I am the father of 6 children and 14 grandchildren resulting in financial hardship during Christmas. I currently work at Mariscos Restaurant in Lawrence Ks. and own a small organic farm on the edge of Lake Clinton. This is my seventh year at the Mathes Learning Center.
