    Superintendent’s Remarks

Dr. Noble recognized the board during January 2019 School Board Recognition Month!

This is a great time to focus on the crucial role our elected board of education plays in our communities and schools. They are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions affect the present and future lives of our children.

We will recognize all board members at our home basketball game Friday, February 1 (Manhattan BB Game) during halftime of the varsity boys’ game with a certificate presentation.

    Teaching & Learning Report

KSDE is offering ACT and WorkKeys, for free, to all juniors and seniors who have not taken these tests. On December 12, we uploaded 230 students to take the ACT and 16 students who want to take WorkKeys. That’s a participation rate of 79% for our junior class! 53.3% of the 2019 senior class has taken the ACT and with the 29 that have signed up to take it in February the rate will increase to 62.2%.

    Special Services Report

Director of Special Services Dedra Raines presented a proposal to the board that would allow the district to operate its own Parents as Teachers (PAT) program. The district currently contracts this service out with the capacity to serve 64 families. The proposal would increase our capacity to 70 families with more continuity of district services. MELC Principal Shanna McKenzie will discuss this proposal with their site council/early learning task force and the board will consider this at the February 11 board meeting. For more information on this proposal, click here.

“PAT is designed to provide children the best possible start in life. Using research-based curriculum, parents are provided with the skills and knowledge they need to help them make the best decisions regarding their children’s education. The program includes personal visits, group connections, health, vision, hearing and developmental screenings, and supports family connections with other community services.”
