USD 345 Families and Staff:

On January 10, 2025, we sent out a note to all families and staff making them aware of a cybersecurity incident reported by PowerSchool. We also created a page on our district website that we have been keeping updated with the latest news from PowerSchool.

Today, PowerSchool sent out notification to contacts in their system regarding their cybersecurity incident. The email came from the address [email protected] and the subject of the email is PowerSchool Cybersecurity Incident.

The email they sent out includes an offer for two years of identity protection and credit monitoring, complimentary of PowerSchool. This is not a service offered by the district, this is being offered by PowerSchool. We understand that it can be difficult to tell the legitimacy of an email of this nature so we wanted to let you know that the email sent from PowerSchool is a formal notification from PowerSchool regarding their cybersecurity incident.

We take data privacy very seriously and remain committed to safeguarding the personal information of our students, families, and staff. We expect all of our partners to uphold the highest standards of data security, and we are staying updated on the Powerschool cybersecurity incident and their response to the situation, including their addition of stronger protections moving forward. Our families and staff deserve confidence in the security of their information and we will continue to prioritize data privacy in every decision we make.

Identity Protection: PowerSchool will be offering two years of complimentary identity protection services for all students and educators whose information was involved.

Credit Monitoring: PowerSchool will also be offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services for all adult students and educators whose information was involved.

Notifications: Starting in the next few weeks, PowerSchool will be handling notifications to involved individuals and relevant state attorney general offices on your behalf. We hope to relieve the burden of these notifications on you and your institution. You may opt out if you would prefer to notify directly.

Community: PowerSchool will coordinate with Experian to provide notice on your behalf to students (or their parents / guardians if the student is under 18) and educators, as applicable, whose information was involved, as well as a call center to answer questions from the community. The notice will include the identity protection and credit monitoring services offer (as applicable).

Regulatory: PowerSchool will provide notification on your behalf to relevant state attorney general offices. You may also have notification requirements with your state’s Department of Education where required. Since many customers have already notified and are in close contact with their state’s Department of Education, PowerSchool will defer to you on these notifications.
