Elmont Students Celebrate National Recycling Day with Hands-On Learning
Posted on 11/14/2025
Students at Elmont Elementary had a fun and educational experience during lunch as they teamed up with WM (Waste Management) and Keep America Beautiful in honor of National Recycling Day. Thanks to a partnership coordinated by WM’s Heartland Area Community Relations Manager, Jonathan Stepp, and Brittany Laughlin, Executive Director of Keep America Beautiful, students learned firsthand what it means to be good stewards of the environment.

To honor National Recycling Day on November 15, WM and Keep America Beautiful brought a recycling demo to the Elmont cafeteria. The activity engaged students in sorting items into their correct bins: recycle, trash, or hazardous waste. By engaging students in this activity it helped build understanding around proper recycling habits and the impact they can have on the community.

Thank you to our volunteers for helping students learn how everyday choices make a difference and impact on our environment. We’re grateful for WM and Keep America Beautiful’s partnership and efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility. Elmont students walked away informed, energized, and ready to make a positive impact, one recycled item at a time.
