Superintendent Update
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!

We have been busy all summer preparing for a wonderful school year and we’re excited to welcome families back into our buildings. Yesterday, all of our staff came together to kick off the year with a Top Gun themed convocation titled “Lift Off and Lift Up.” This year is going to be all about getting students ready to excel and take off while we work together as a team to lift each other up. You will hear me talk about teamwork and partnering a lot because I truly believe we all have the same interests and goals in helping our kids succeed and we can do great things for our kids when we work together. I’ve only been in this school community a short amount of time but I can tell you that every person that I’ve met has that same goal.

In July, my family and I officially moved into the Seaman Community. Your warm reception has meant a great deal to us in our transition. I hope you will extend that same kindness to our newest members of the team. We have 48 new teachers/certified staff and around 40 new classified staff starting with us this year. In that mix are some new faces and some familiar faces who have worked in the district before and we’re excited to have back. If you meet one of our new employees, I would encourage you to reach out and make them feel welcome and at home.

On Wednesday, August 17, the USD 345 Board of Education will make their final walkthrough in all our buildings before the students fill our hallways on August 18. The next few weeks are filled with opportunities to be an engaged parent so please connect with your child’s building and partner with us on an incredible year!

  See Something, Say Something

Our See Something, Say Something reporting tool is anonymous. This form allows you and others to submit safety concerns to district officials. This reporting tool is continuously monitored by district staff. If you would like to receive follow-up correspondence you may leave your contact information. Reporting observed threats, behaviors, actions, and harassment help maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.

After you provide as much information as you have about a safety or security concern, here are the next steps the district follows:

1. A district official reviews your information and replies to your tip if contact info is provided.
2. Your tip is forwarded to the proper administration to begin investigation.
3. You are contacted (if contact info is provided) to provide any follow-up info, if needed.
4. Administration follows through with the investigation and any action steps necessary.

Crime Stoppers is another reporting tool available to Shawnee County residents. Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming fear and apathy. They assist local law enforcement agencies by gathering information through the use of online and mobile tools and encourage community members to volunteer vital information that could lead to the battle against crime.

Call the Anonymous Tip Line at (785) 234-0007 or submit information through their Mobile Application. Tips that lead to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward.

USD Food Service FAQs

Q: Are school meals free for all students for the 2022-2023 school year?
A: No. On July 1st all current students and new students will be full paid. Students will need money on lunch accounts unless they have received a letter from USD 345 stating that they have been approved for Free/Reduced meals for the 2022-2023 school year by the end of July.

Q: How can I get Free or Reduced priced meals for my child/children? Will I need to complete a Free & Reduced Application to qualify for free/reduced meals for the 2022-2023 school year.
A: Yes, for the last 2 years all students have received free meals due to Covid-19. That benefit expires at the end of this current school year and all students will be considered full price until a completed application is received and approved by Nutrition Services staff.

Q: When will the Free/Reduced application be available and where can I get it?
A: The Free/Reduced Application is available online.

Q: Do I need to fill a separate application for each child?
A: No, all the children in the household go on 1 application, even if they attend different schools here at Seaman. All people living in the household should be listed and any income earned must be listed.

Q: Are there any other benefits I might be eligible to receive?
A: There is a “Consent for Disclosure” form that you can complete to receive reduced enrollment fees if you qualify. It will be with the Free/Reduced Application and should be returned with the application.
