Superintendent Update
I hope everyone is finding their groove as the school year continues its great start. I know I have found mine with the help of this wonderful community. Thank you to many for taking the time to meet with me as I’m reaching out to learn more about our school district. It has been an enriching and energizing experience to hear the different perspectives with that same underlying theme…we care deeply about our students, staff, schools, and community.

I can assure you that we remain committed to ensuring our school community stays connected, just like we are committed to keeping kids connected in their school. This week, our high school students will participate in a schoolwide club fair with an opportunity to learn about and join 28 different clubs. We know that when students are involved and engaged in extracurricular activities, student success follows. This can also be replicated in our community. When our parents, staff, and community members are engaged, our community thrives.

Partnering with parents and providing opportunities for parents to be in our schools and see what their children are doing is important to us. Our dedicated and talented staff work hard to provide a robust offering of opportunities to connect with our community and promote an environment of student support around our district. You will see a few of these events in this edition of the eCommunicator. Please consider joining us to continue building on the strength of our vibrant community.

We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you out at some of our activities supporting and encouraging our students.

Health Screenings

Each year, USD 345 completes various health screenings in accordance with state law at no charge. These screenings include: hearing, vision, and dental. Screenings are conducted as part of our health services program and administered by school nurses or qualified healthcare service partners. Parents will be notified if further attention is advised after a screening is complete.

Routine health screenings in schools promote healthy lifestyles and ensure each student is ready to learn. School health screening information is protected by privacy laws and kept confidential.

If you would like to opt your child out of health screenings, please follow the link below and send a written letter of exclusion to your child's school office by September 9, 2022.

  See Something, Say Something

Our See Something, Say Something reporting tool is anonymous. This form allows you and others to submit safety concerns to district officials. This reporting tool is continuously monitored by district staff. If you would like to receive follow-up correspondence you may leave your contact information. Reporting observed threats, behaviors, actions, and harassment help maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.

After you provide as much information as you have about a safety or security concern, here are the next steps the district follows:

1. A district official reviews your information and replies to your tip if contact info is provided.
2. Your tip is forwarded to the proper administration to begin investigation.
3. You are contacted (if contact info is provided) to provide any follow-up info, if needed.
4. Administration follows through with the investigation and any action steps necessary.

Crime Stoppers is another reporting tool available to Shawnee County residents. Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming fear and apathy. They assist local law enforcement agencies by gathering information through the use of online and mobile tools and encourage community members to volunteer vital information that could lead to the battle against crime.

Call the Anonymous Tip Line at (785) 234-0007 or submit information through their Mobile Application. Tips that lead to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward.
