#LearningWithoutLimits

Logan's social worker Kelli Hagerty and principal Christine Saunders talked about the success and impact of the Logan Community Resource Room. Last year, they were able to serve over 200 families from across the district with basic needs, such as food, clothing, hygiene supplies, etc. The community resource room has developed several partnerships to help provide items to families in need. In addition to food and supplies, visitors to the community resource room can find help in Medicaid applications and connecting with other community resources.

So far this year, the community resource room has provided 25 winter coats to kids in our community and helped over 150 families. The group is looking to expand the opportunity so other USD 345 staff can give by offering Thankful Thursdays as a way to donate to the community resource room.

Special Services Report

This week November 11-15 is School Psychology Awareness Week. Our special education department has five quality school psychologists with whom we could not do without. They are: Breyana Miller (NF & MELC), Gary Mapes (WI & NH), Christy Raines (LO), Alexandra Scott (SHS & PHLC), and Sam Bickel (EL & SMS). They have such a huge responsibility within our district. They are the first go-to people for any special outside-the-box special education needs. They evaluate students to determine disabilities, provide the needed knowledge of IDEA to our schools/principals, and work directly with staff to coach and provide resources. They also spend a great deal of time working directly with our families of students with special needs to provide them with resources at home to meet their needs. Finally, they evaluate our students to determine exceptionalities and then identify best-practices and strategies to meet those students’ needs. We truly appreciate these folks and could not function without them.
