School Board Appreciation Month

Board Appreciation Month
Mathes Early Learning Center students presented board members with artwork to say "thank you" for School Board Appreciation Month.

School Board Appreciation Month is a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected board of education plays in our communities and schools. They are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions affect the present and future lives of our children.

Tim Collins
Seaman High School Teacher Tim Collins and student Sophia Wawussak presented "Radljost," the new SHS literary magazine featuring short stories, poetry, and essays created by students. Click here to peruse the online collection. 

Keith Griffin Certificate

School Board Member Keith Griffin was recognized as one of 26 Kansas board members, superintendents, and administrators to complete Kansas Association of School Boards' Leadership for Tomorrow Class of 2019. 

KASB’s Leadership for Tomorrow program identifies exemplary board of education members, school superintendents and administrators from across Kansas for the year-long leadership program. Those selected for the program participate in five two-day sessions centering on student achievement, key education issues and leadership skills.

The consent agenda contains items packaged into one agenda item. They are often routine and garner very little discussion.

Parents as Teachers (PAT)
The district's PAT program presented on their work with families in the district. PAT focuses on birth to age three. Click here to view the presentation. 

Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG-K)
JAG-K is a Seaman High School program, committed to partnering with students to overcome barriers to graduate from high school and prepare them for career pathways that will help them reach their full potential as leaders for their families, employers, communities, Kansas and our nation. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
Seaman High School will be introducing AVID to students next school year. AVID will be an elective class designed to accelerate the performance of underrepresented students. Click here to view the presentation. 

Teaching & Learning Report

Special Services Report

The Special Services Department reviewed the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training in the district. To view the entire special services report, click here.


Action Items

The board approved:
  • the lease/purchase of Select Spectrum by Soniqwave.
  • the lease of five special education buses from Kansas Truck Equipment.
  • secondary program planning guides.
  • the date for board leadership elections.
  • the purchase of printed social studies materials for grades 4, 5, and 6.

Next 345 Board of Education Meeting

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will take place on February 10. It is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm. The Seaman USD #345 Board of Education will meet at the Seaman Education Center, 901 NW Lyman Rd, in the Ann Minihan Board Room.
