Superintendent Remarks

Dr. Noble recognized the incredible work of our teachers and staff while they keep kids learning and connected throughout this time of COVID-19 closure. The district will be working with a company called Tripod to release surveys to parents, students (grades 5-12), and teachers, on Friday. The district will gather anonymous feedback through these surveys, as they work to improve the success of continuous learning in our district.

Public Communications

The board reviewed additional frequently asked questions submitted online.

Will April 24 still be a professional learning day?
No. April 24 will be a regular student instructional day.

Can we borrow an additional device from the district?
Our first round of district-issued device distribution is complete. All families should now have at least one device per household with USD 345 staff and secondary students sharing devices with their family. If your family is having trouble with continuous learning, due to a lack of access to additional devices, please let your classroom teacher know. They will either make accommodations or make a request on your behalf, after communication with the principal, to borrow a district-issued device from our technology department. The second round of district device distribution will be loaned out based on need and by principal’s requests.

Will SHS have graduation or prom?
Graduation 2020: Seaman High School Graduation 2020 will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at 4:00 PM and will be held at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka.

Graduation 2020 Practice and Cookout: 2020 Seniors will convene in the SHS Auditorium on Friday, 7/31, 11:00 AM for graduation practice and checkout. A cookout will follow. Graduates will receive their cap and gown during checkout. We are in communication with Jostens regarding a plan to modify announcements and arrange for pickup or delivery.

Prom 2020: The SHS Prom is planned for Thursday, 7/30, 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Stormont Vail Events Center, Exhibition Hall. We are planning for an online registration and are in communication with our Afterglow committee about an abbreviated event.

(All dates are subject to change based on public health concerns)

Will you still allow out-of-district transfers next year?
All out-of-district transfer applications will be considered based on the same criteria as years passed.

What happens to Kindergarten Orientation?
April 16 Kindergarten Orientation hosted in schools will be cancelled due to public health concerns. Please contact your building to complete and return the forms needed for kindergarten enrollment.

Will there still be summer camps?
At the time, 2020 summer camps have not been affected by the COVID-19 school building closure. We are hopeful that summer activities will continue.
