GraduationThe Class of 2020 Graduation is planned for Sunday, August 2 at 4:00 pm in the Stormont-Vail Events Center.

Practice Graduation & Senior Checkout
The practice graduation and senior checkout is planned for Friday, July 31.

Students with last names A-K should report to the SHS Auditorium at 11:00 am.

Students with last names L-Z should report to the SHS Auditorium at 1:00 pm.

Students will receive their cumulative K-12 school file, 6 tickets for guests to attend the graduation ceremony, a commemorative 2020 graduate yard sign, and will have the opportunity to take care of any obligations. Diplomas will be mailed to the home address listed in PowerSchool.


Graduation Health Protocols
The health and well-being of our students, families, and the community is our top priority. Health and Safety protocols for the practice graduation and graduation ceremony are listed below. 

  • Face masks are required for entry into the building, during the ceremony and while exiting Landon Arena and parking lot. Everyone is responsible for providing their own face mask. Anyone not wearing a face mask will be denied entry into the building.
  • Speakers will not need a mask while speaking.
  • Students may remove their masks to walk the stage and have their pictures taken by a professional photographer. The event will also be live streamed and recorded.  
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be provided by the event center.
  • Soap and water will be available for hand washing.
  • Disinfecting of Landon Arena and Exhibition Hall will occur between graduations.
  • All Vehicles should enter through the Topeka Blvd entrance and may exit through either the Topeka Blvd exit or 21st exit. 
  • Students will enter the Exhibition Hall (the building North of Landon Arena) from the west entrance at 3:00 pm. The east entrance is under construction.
  • Families and guests may enter Landon Arena after 3:00 pm from the new 2nd level south entrance and the lower level southeast entrance (handicapped accessible) and will be ushered to the second level seating area. As a precautionary measure, family groups should social distance from other family groups and spread out in the seating areas throughout the Arena. Social distancing from others is required.
  • At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates and guests are requested to exit in a staggered fashion to ensure social distancing and to avoid bottlenecks at the exits. Gatherings outside of the arena for any reason, such as pictures are not permitted. Everyone must dismiss from the arena and parking lot in a swift and orderly fashion.
    1.) Seniors will exit immediately following the ceremony.  
    2.) Group 1 (sections 100 - 117 & 205 - 213) will dismiss when directed.  
    3.) Group 2 (sections 120 - 127 & 219 - 227) will dismiss when directed.
    *Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these procedures that have been developed to keep everyone safe.  
  • Guests are limited to 6 per graduate. Graduates will receive tickets for their guests during practice graduation on 7/31. Families should be spread out throughout the arena with social distancing in mind. Guests are not permitted on the ground level. Handicapped seating is permitted on the lower level. Graduates will have multiple pictures taken by a professional photographer and the event will be live streamed for those who cannot make it or choose to stay home. 
  • Graduate seating on the lower level will be arranged with 6’ distancing (see the attached diagram).  Commencement is not a requirement for graduation. Diplomas will be mailed home to the address listed on PowerSchool. 
  • If you are ill, have a temperature, or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, please stay home. Some examples of symptoms include: fever of 100.4 F or higher, chills, rigors, myalgia, headache, sore throat, lower respiratory illness.
     


Other Info
  • Yearbooks have been delayed so that we can incorporate graduation pictures into the yearbooks. Therefore, yearbooks will not be ready until late October.

  • If all obligations are taken care of, diplomas will be mailed to the student address that is listed in PowerSchool. Any outstanding balances may be taken care of at practice graduation/senior checkout on 7/31.
