Superintendent Update

We launched a new employee recognition program called Excellence is Earned and we're excited to share our first round of honorees! This group was selected by their peers and now they will continue the cycle by selecting someone to receive recognition for their excellence.

Excellence is Earned will be an on-going cycle where our staff is out spotting excellence around the district and sharing those stories with our school community. Once a month, we will gather the new nominations and begin the cycle again. All honorees will be featured on our Excellence is Earned webpage, announced here in our eCommunicator, and shared on our social media pages.

I’m looking forward to this new employee recognition program and I hope you are too! It will be so fun to see the Excellence is Earned shirts multiplying around the district because we have a lot of excellence to showcase! If you see someone wearing one of these shirts, please take a moment to thank them for their commitment to excellence.

A special thank you and shout out to our SEAF mini-grant winners for kicking this program off for us!

In-District Transfer/Out-of-District Transfer Requests for 2024-25

The Kansas Legislature passed laws that went into effect in January 2024 for all Kansas school districts regarding out-of-district students. We have updated our process in accordance with the new law.

Returning students attending a school outside of their boundary:

Parents/Guardians will no longer have to fill out the Application for Transfer. Returning students will still be reviewed as they have been in the past (grades, attendance, behavior and outstanding school fees.) Parents/Guardians will be notified in May whether they have been approved for next school year.

Siblings that are not currently attending USD 345 will have to complete the Application for Transfer which will be available at the end of May.

New In-District Transfer and Out-of-District Applicants:

In May we will post our available slots for the 2024-25 school year on our website.

In June we will accept all new applications for transfer.

In July we will select, via a random lottery, applications to fill our available slots. All applicants will be contacted to let them know they were selected, or that all slots were filled.

If you have any questions, please contact Theresa Dunham, [email protected], 785-575-8600, X-102.

Get Paid to Watch Games

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could get paid to go to your kid’s events? You can! Our incredible transportation department will train you (paid training, btw) and pay you to drive a bus to athletics and activities, and pay you to watch the game/activity, and pay you to drive the bus back! Plus, bus drivers get into away games for free! Starting pay is $17.25 per hour. Think about it for a second. It kinda makes sense, doesn’t it? If you’re interested, give Ronna Blocker a call at 785-286-8440 or email [email protected]

  See Something, Say Something

Our See Something, Say Something reporting tool is anonymous. This form allows you and others to submit safety concerns to district officials. This reporting tool is continuously monitored by district staff. If you would like to receive follow-up correspondence you may leave your contact information. Reporting observed threats, behaviors, actions, and harassment help maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.

After you provide as much information as you have about a safety or security concern, here are the next steps the district follows:

1. A district official reviews your information and replies to your tip if contact info is provided.
2. Your tip is forwarded to the proper administration to begin investigation.
3. You are contacted (if contact info is provided) to provide any follow-up info, if needed.
4. Administration follows through with the investigation and any action steps necessary.

Crime Stoppers is another reporting tool available to Shawnee County residents. Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming fear and apathy. They assist local law enforcement agencies by gathering information through the use of online and mobile tools and encourage community members to volunteer vital information that could lead to the battle against crime.

Call the Anonymous Tip Line at (785) 234-0007 or submit information through their Mobile Application. Tips that lead to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward.

 Seaman Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers is a FREE program offered to anyone in the Seaman School District. It is a voluntary program designed for all families with children ages prenatal to Kindergarten entry. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is based on two important concepts: 1.) Parents are their child's first and most influential teachers and 2.) experiences in the first years of a child's life are key to future success in school and life.

Parents as Teachers offers personal visits, group connections, screenings and a resource network. Call Mathes Early Learning Center at 785-286-7103 and leave a message for Angie or Tina. Also check out our Facebook Page, Seaman Parents as Teachers USD 345.

Visit Seaman Parents as Teachers online for more information.
