SMS Viking Golf
7th and 8th Grade Boys and Girls
Coach: Mrs. Julie McLaughlin
Coach: Mr. Kris Etzel
Golf is a spring sport and will start in March after Spring Break. This sport is for both boys and girls. SMS students interested in playing golf must have their own equipment: golf clubs, golf tees, golf balls. Golfers will typically practice two days a week as golf course availability is limited. Once a roster has been put together based on the number of students going out for the sport, a practice schedule will be created and communicated to the athletes and their parents.
Interested students should plan to attend an informational meeting on Wed. March 6 during Seminar. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Julie McLaughlin by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Golfers will be bussed to the golf course--we will be leaving after school at 3:15. Golfers will need to have a ride home from the golf course after practice. Practice will typically be two days/week.
Mondays: Village Greens Golf Course
Tuesdays: Great Life North
Wednesdays: Prairie View Golf Course
Thursdays: Great Life Safari Driving Range
Due to golfers potentially missing one or more full days of school near the end of the semester, we have a policy to encourage golfers to keep up with their grades as we near the end of the semester. Please read the following so that there will be no misunderstandings.
Coaches will check the grades of golfers every Tuesday morning. Any golfer who has one or more F's will not be able to practice until their grades have improved. This is solely the golfer's responsibility and not that of any teacher or parent. This missed practice will count as an UNEXCUSED absence. If a golfer accumulates more than one unexcused absence, that golfer may be dismissed from the golf team for the rest of the season.
Pick Up Time:
The coaches have to wait after practice until all athletes are picked up. Therefore, please plan ahead to have a ride here on time each day practice is in session. If a parent is unable to get here by that time, there are many possibilities for carpools with the number of athletes that will be out for Golf. We do understand that emergencies happen; however, we appreciate all your efforts to get a ride there in a timely fashion. If a parent picks up later than 5:20 on Mondays and Thursdays, or 4:50 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a warning sheet requiring a parent signature will be issued after the first violation. In order for your child to return to practice, this form must be signed and brought back to Coach McLaughlin or Coach Etzel. Any days of practice missed will be unexcused absences. If a late pick-up happens a second time, it will result in the golfer being dismissed from the team.
