Classroom Grading Information
Students in 8th grade language arts receive points for all assignments completed in class. If a grade is entered as a "0" then it probably was not handed in by the student. If a student is absent, then a zero will be put in for a grade until it is turned in by the student when they return to class. No daily assignments may be turned in late, but some writing and projects can be turned in late with a penalty. One day late is deducted 20% and more than 1 day late is deducted by 50%. If a student is absent, they have 2 days when they return to complete missed lessons or tests.
Language arts overall grades will be weighted in the following categories: vocabulary 25%, writing/projects 25%, reading comprehension 25%, and grammar 25%.
The best way to contact Mrs. Hess is through email. She can also be reached at SMS during her plan time from approximately 8:40-9:20 am. Parents may also call SMS before or after school hours between 7:35-3:15. If she is unavailable at that time, she will be glad to return you call within a reasonable amount of time.
