8th Grade Curriculum Fair

Helping 8th Graders Take the First Step into High School
Posted on 01/28/2026
Seaman High School welcomed 8th grade students for the Seaman Freshman Center (SFC) Curriculum Fair, to help students prepare to transition from middle school to high school next year. Students were able to gain early exposure to the opportunities ahead.

During the Curriculum Fair, students heard directly from Seaman High School departments about the wide range of course options available to them. These presentations were designed to help students begin understanding not only what their freshman year could look like, but how their choices connect to future years of learning at Seaman High School. The event focused mostly on electives, pathways, and how to use the Program Planning Guide as a resource during enrollment.

Each student received a Program Planning Guide to take home and share with their families. This guide will serve as a valuable resource as students and parents begin conversations about course selections and future goals. An online version is also available to ensure families have easy access to the information.

In addition to learning about academics, students had the chance to become more familiar with the high school building. Walking the halls and spending time in the space helped reduce some of the uncertainty that can come with such a big transition. Knowing where things are and what to expect can go a long way in easing nerves and building confidence.

We know the transition to high school can feel overwhelming for students and parents alike. That’s why our staff is intentional about creating multiple opportunities for connection, learning, and support. A smooth transition matters to us, and we believe early exposure, clear communication, and strong partnerships with families make a meaningful difference.

To continue supporting this transition, Seaman High School will also host a Freshman Parent Night on February 2 from 6:00–7:00 pm in the SHS Auditorium. This evening will provide additional information for parents and another opportunity to learn more about what to expect in the year ahead.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our students feel prepared, confident, and excited for this next step as a Viking.
