Washburn Athletes Bring Bods Care Spirit to USD 345 Schools

Elementary students are getting a boost of inspiration thanks to a special partnership with Washburn University. Through Washburn’s Bods Care program, student-athletes volunteer in our schools by reading with students, helping in classrooms, and joining activities such as recess and physical education.
The Bods Care program is designed to get Washburn's student-athletes, coaches, and administrators into the community. The program partners with 18 local elementary schools and organizations throughout the year. By coming into our schools, these college students live out those values while also serving as positive role models for our students.
For elementary students, this connection is powerful. When children see college athletes giving their time and energy, it reinforces lessons about hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. It also shows that success in the classroom and in sports comes from dedication, responsibility, and respect for others.
The partnership also benefits the Washburn athletes themselves. They gain experience in leadership, mentorship, and community service while making a lasting impact on the next generation.
Together, Washburn University and our schools are building meaningful relationships reminding students that they are supported by a caring community that believes in their them.
