Docent for a Day

SHS Students Bring Kansas History to Life at “Docent for a Day” Event
Posted on 03/27/2026
Visitors to the Kansas Museum of History experienced exhibits in a whole new way on Friday, March 27, as students from Seaman High School stepped into the role of historians for the museum’s “Docent for a Day” event.

Approximately 50 Seaman High School students participated in the collaborative project, each selecting an artifact or exhibit to research and present. After weeks of preparation, students spent the day sharing their knowledge with museum visitors, including fourth-grade students from across the district and members of the public.

Throughout the day, students served as expert guides, engaging visitors with presentations, answering questions, and helping connect the past to the present. The event not only provided a meaningful learning experience for the high school students but also created an interactive opportunity for younger students and community members to explore Kansas history.

The “Docent for a Day” event ran from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and offered visitors a unique opportunity to learn directly from student historians. Through their research and presentations, Seaman High School students demonstrated the power of student voice, collaboration, and hands-on learning while bringing Kansas history to life for the community.
