Seaman Elementary Students Participate in a Community Mural Project
Posted on 03/27/2026
Seaman elementary students are getting the opportunity to leave their mark on North Topeka through a community mural project on the Kansas Avenue Bridge in the NOTO Arts District. The project, led by artist Zandra Sneed-Dawkins, aims to highlight the history and spirit of North Topeka while giving students a meaningful voice in the creative process.

During recent planning discussions, community partners and school representatives collaborated on ways to involve students from Seaman School District by painting sections of the mural. Students and their parents participated in a field trip to contribute to the mural on March 27.

The mural design will feature important community landmarks and symbols, including Kansas-themed imagery, Billard Airport, and Garfield Park, recognized as the site connected to the historic Brown v. Board of Education case. These elements will help tell the story of North Topeka while showcasing student creativity and community pride.

This collaborative effort reflects the Seaman School District’s commitment to community partnerships and student engagement. By participating in the mural project, students are not only learning about local history but also contributing to a lasting piece of public art that celebrates the North Topeka community.
