Seaman Alum Digs into Science at SMS

Seaman Alum Helps Students Dig into Science at SMS

Seaman Middle School students had a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world science on Friday, February 13, as 8th grade science classes gathered in the library for a special paleontology presentation. Guest speaker Dr. Kate Andrzejewski, Assistant Scientist and Stratigrapher with the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas, returned to her roots to share her expertise and passion for earth science.

A proud Seaman alum (SHS Class of 2010), Dr. Andrzejewski engaged students with stories and examples of fossils and rock formations found right here in Kansas and beyond. Her presentation highlighted how scientists study Earth’s history through stratigraphy and paleontology, bringing to life the very concepts students explore in their science classrooms.

Experiences like this reinforce the importance of science education by helping students see the possibilities that begin in their very own classrooms.
