Seaman Middle School Teacher Garret Platt Wins Kansas Horizon Award

Topeka- Seaman Middle School Educator Garret Platt was named a 2019 Kansas Horizon Award winner. This Kansas Department of Education program identifies and recognizes exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.

Garret Platt, a Pittsburg State University alumn,  is currently in his second year at Seaman Middle School. He teaches Introduction to Industrial Technology, Project Lead the Way Automation and Robotics, as well as an enrichment class in Viking Store Productions.

“Mr. Platt creates learning connections with students through his classroom projects,” said Director of Secondary Education Danira Fernandez-Flores.  “For instance, students are able to see the importance of mathematics as they determine the quantities of materials needed for their projects.”

Colleagues say that Mr. Platt, does a wonderful job utilizing his ability to relate to and build relationships with students, motivating and inspiring them both academically and socially. “Garret is a reflective teacher with a ‘can do’ philosophy,” said Seaman Middle School Principal Annie Diederich.
