Seaman School District Teacher Awarded Outstanding Teacher by KSPE

The Topeka Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE) named Rebecca Unruh as the 2018-19 Outstanding Teacher at the elementary level. Mrs. Unruh is a K-6 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) - Launch teacher at Northern Hills Elementary School, in USD 345 Seaman School District.

PLTW Launch is a STEM based curriculum that helps students develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance.  “Rebecca is a dedicated teacher who is passionate about providing STEM learning opportunities for her students,” said Megan Nussbaum, director of innovation for Seaman School District. “As a first-year PLTW Launch teacher, she has embraced the curriculum and is inspiring future engineers and innovators.  Our district is very fortunate to have her on the PLTW Launch teacher team.”

The Outstanding Teacher Award is given to a teacher who has a strong math, science, or technical area of emphasis, is imaginative in his/her teaching approach, and has an excellent rapport with his or her students. “Rebecca has high expectations for all of her students,” said Martha Darter, Northern Hills principal. “She does an excellent job of extending their learning by providing opportunities for students to be creative and think at a higher level.”

The award will be presented during the Engineers Week Luncheon, which will take place Thursday, February 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Bartlett & West.
