Seaman Community,
I have had a great time getting to know you and the Seaman community better over the past few months by listening and learning from those of you who have had generations of family members go through our schools, those of you who are new to the community, and everyone in between. Thank you all for your kindness and sharing your thoughts and ideas with me.
I was so impressed with the strong and consistent strengths I heard throughout my listening tour; healthy relationships, strong reputation, supportive community, students successes; just to name a few. Those are some very strong foundational pieces we can leverage as we overcome our challenges, which like many school districts, include attracting and retaining high quality staff and new distractions and ramifications from the pandemic.
Throughout all of my conversations it’s apparent that we can all agree on one very important concept. We all want success and a great educational experience for our kids. Now we have to come together to work on a plan to get us there and we can do that through the strategic planning process.
Our strategic planning process will focus on building a strong and supportive foundation so that our classroom teachers and those who are working directly with our kids can do what they do best--ensure each of our kids reach their full potential.
Our board of education will lead us by setting guideposts, or focus points, from which to build our plan around.
Phase 1 will consist of establishing a strong foundation of support across all of our departments. We will identify and put in place the structures that are necessary so we can better support our educational staff.
Phase 2 will be all about enhancing our student learning. When our schools are fully supported, teachers, counselors, social workers, paras, and everyone else who works directly with kids, will be able to focus on our students’ needs.
Once we have that foundational support where our staff can focus on our kids, we can begin to transform the learning experience in many different ways.
I hope you will all consider joining us in the development of our next strategic plan.
