#LearningWithoutLimits

Seaman High School will be one of ten Kansas schools recognized in September for the civic engagement opportunities we offer students. The Civic Advocacy Network (CAN) was established by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) in order to recognize schools that actively involve students in civic engagement opportunities and to help collect exemplary civic engagement practices to share with schools across the state. The ultimate goal of CAN is to promote civic engagement as part of all preK-12 students’ experiences. Click here for more information on the CAN awards.

Teaching & Learning Report

The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program made a smooth transition to North Fairview from Logan this year. The class enrollment is at full capacity already. This can be attributed to factors that include more strategic communication at kindergarten orientations last spring, increased awareness for kindergarten staff and the positive outcomes that occurred in last year’s program. There are currently 15 students enrolled in the program. Students from all elementary buildings are enrolled in the program this year, 2- EL, 1-LO, 5-NF, 5-NH, 2-WI.

Special Services Report

We have eight Social Workers serving our students within Seaman Schools:

Hope Werner - Mathes Early Learning Center
Chandler McKinley - Elmont and West Indianola
Tory Simpson - Northern Hills and North Fairview
Samantha Jacobs - Logan
Kelli Hegarty - Logan and Pleasant Hill Learning Campus
Joy McKee - Seaman Middle School
Julie Kizzar - Seaman High School
Alyssa Schultz - Seaman High School

The Social Workers meet once each quarter with Directors of Special Services and Elementary and Secondary Education to ensure continuity of services throughout the district. This past month, they met to compile a list of priority resources needed with our Seaman community. This list will be used by all social workers, but also will be displayed across the district for all to see and pull from. They finalized evaluation for services criteria. Future meetings will consist of developing resources for behavior and social/emotional supports support across the district, collaborating in regards to families and staff, as well as reviewing data as to the effectiveness of their practices.
