Superintendent Update

I can’t believe we’ve only been in school for two and a half weeks! Students have done such a great job transitioning back to regular school day routines that it feels like we never stopped. Great job, parents! We are so thankful for your help in making the start of the school year a success.

Now that it’s starting to cool down just a bit (I only see one three-digit day in the week ahead!!!), we can start thinking and getting excited for our fall sports season with competitions already starting earlier this week. Our teams are already off to a great start. Last year was Seaman High School’s first year in the United Kansas Conference (UKC) and in our first year we won the Conference Cup! That is how you enter a new conference! The Conference Cup Trophy is awarded to one school as the Conference Cup Champions every year based on the performance from all of our sports teams so this was a huge group effort and accomplishment for Seaman High School! Way to go, teams!

Our teams and coaches would be the first to tell you that we could not have done it without the support from our students, staff, parents, and community. Seaman school events are great opportunities for the community to come together so bring the family out to a game, race, match, tournament, etc. Seaman High School has around 750 students who participate in athletics! This fall season, we’ve got football, girls tennis, volleyball, boys soccer, girls golf, cross country, and unified bowling. We also have so many other activities that offer opportunities for our community like: plays, band concerts, choir concerts, orchestra concerts, debate tournaments, scholars bowls, etc. Our students are experiencing so many of their interests that will prepare them for a successful future and you can cheer them on!

The band is ready. Our cheerleaders are ready. Our Vikettes are ready. Our Auxiliary Dance Team is ready. Our student section is ready. Are you ready to join us on our journey to another UKC Conference Cup?

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the annual Homecoming Parade on October 6 at 2:00 pm! We release all schools early on this day so everyone can attend.

23-24 Calendar

Join our Team as a Substitute Teacher

Substitute

We have substitute teacher positions open, including both regular and long-term. If you know of any potential candidates, please have them contact the HR department at 785–575-8602 or email [email protected]. Below is more information on substitute pay.

Long-Term Substitute Teacher
Substitute Teachers are compensated at the long-term daily rate under the following condition: Beginning on the eleventh consecutive day of replacing the same absent teacher, the substitute will begin receiving the long term pay rate. Once a substitute teacher begins a long-term assignment, they will assume all of the responsibilities and duties of the regular teacher.

Substitute teachers, when in a long-term assignment will be allowed "plan time" as is possible, but may be required to cover another teacher's classroom during the absent teacher's plan time.

Long Term Rate: Full Day $240; Half Day $120

Regular Substitute Teachers
Substitute Teachers payroll period will end monthly on the last day of the month, with the possible exception of May. The first payroll period of each school year will begin on the first day of school through August 31. The final payroll period for the school year runs through the last day of school. We suggest that substitutes keep records of the dates worked and any details of the assignment hours along with the confirmation number given by Absence Management. Payday will be the 14th of each month, September through June unless the 14th is on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday.

Substitute teachers are paid by a half day or full day. Four or less hours is considered a half day. Any time over four hours, less than eight hours is considered a full day.

Regular Substitute Rate: Full Day $120; Half Day $65 (rates for regular subbing up through ten days, day 11 with the same assignment becomes long-term substitute status).

Get Paid to Watch Games

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could get paid to go to your kid’s events? You can! Our incredible transportation department will train you (paid training, btw) and pay you to drive a bus to athletics and activities, and pay you to watch the game/activity, and pay you to drive the bus back! Plus, bus drivers get into away games for free! Starting pay is $17.25 per hour. Think about it for a second. It kinda makes sense, doesn’t it? If you’re interested, give Ronna Blocker a call at 785-286-8440 or email [email protected]

Test of the USD 345 Emergency Notification System

Notification Test
We want to inform you about an upcoming test of our USD 345 Emergency Notification System, which is scheduled to occur during a non-school day. This test is an essential part of our commitment to providing effective communication during critical situations. If you are receiving this email then you should be set up for email communication. During the test, you will be able to check your text and voice call notification preferences as well.

Emergency Notification Test Details
Date: Monday, September 4, 2023
Time: Noon

During this test, you should receive a test message via various communication channels based on your preferences selected during online enrollment, including:

• Text messages to your registered mobile numbers
• Email notifications to your registered email addresses
• A voice call to your registered phone number

Please note that this is only a test, and there is no cause for concern. The purpose of this exercise is to assess the functionality and efficiency of our USD 345 Emergency Notification System in a controlled environment. We hope to not interfere with your Labor Day activities. We simply ask that at some point, you check to be sure you received the test messages and that your notifications line up with your notification preferences. If you do not receive the September 4 test messages, please contact us so we can get that fixed.

In the event of a real emergency, the notification channels we are testing will be utilized to provide critical information, instructions, and updates. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, and we are continuously working to ensure our emergency communication system is reliable and effective.

If you encounter any issues or have feedback regarding the test, please feel free to reach out to [email protected].

Thank you for your cooperation during this test. Together, we are better prepared to face any potential emergencies and keep our schools safe.

  See Something, Say Something

Our See Something, Say Something reporting tool is anonymous. This form allows you and others to submit safety concerns to district officials. This reporting tool is continuously monitored by district staff. If you would like to receive follow-up correspondence you may leave your contact information. Reporting observed threats, behaviors, actions, and harassment help maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.

After you provide as much information as you have about a safety or security concern, here are the next steps the district follows:

1. A district official reviews your information and replies to your tip if contact info is provided.
2. Your tip is forwarded to the proper administration to begin investigation.
3. You are contacted (if contact info is provided) to provide any follow-up info, if needed.
4. Administration follows through with the investigation and any action steps necessary.

Crime Stoppers is another reporting tool available to Shawnee County residents. Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming fear and apathy. They assist local law enforcement agencies by gathering information through the use of online and mobile tools and encourage community members to volunteer vital information that could lead to the battle against crime.

Call the Anonymous Tip Line at (785) 234-0007 or submit information through their Mobile Application. Tips that lead to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward.
